Caution: Harmful if eaten. Pot up sweet pea plugs and grow them on in cool bright conditions until large enough to plant outdoors in their final positions. Pinch out the growing tips while they are still small to encourage bushy growth. Plant sweet peas in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Be sure to provide the stems with a trellis or plant climbing frame to their supports as they grow.
Feed and water Lathyrus plants regularly throughout the growing season, particularly during hot, dry periods. Cut sweet pea flowers frequently and deadhead faded blooms to encourage more blooms to be produced throughout summer.
